You do not have to be a social media expert to be able to improve your personal online branding or share your expertise on social media networks. Here are some easy ways to build an online community and develop loyal followers while adding value to the community. In this particular post we will look at tactics or specific ways that you can use for ramping up your impact on your Facebook friends. Later we will look at other platforms or networks.
These should be among your daily activities on Facebook:
- Update status daily with something engaging and interesting – If you have a blog then post an intriguing snippet from your most recent article and put a link to your blog in your status update. Posting photos and videos of funny situations, of babies , toddlers or animals is a sure way to captivate attention and illicit a response.
- Respond to all comments on your wall – This is a great way to have a dialogue which can help you to stand out among the clutter on Facebook. Make sure your responses are clear and easily understood.
- Comment on at least 5 well known people’s status or updates within your network – People who are well known or popular usually have their status read daily and people most likely will read the comments that others make on these status update. Remember that not everyone understand certain jargon or local dialect like Patio.
- Share 3-5 of your friends’ updates – Sharing your friends’ updates or posts is a great way to gain favor since as we say in Jamaica, ‘one hand wash another‘ . You share someone’s status update and they will most likely want to share yours in return.
- Wish your friends Happy Birthday – Remember this is a community and personal interactions are very important since they demonstrate you care.
- Participate in discussions of various groups – This will allow you to demonstrate your expertise.
- Post comments on fan or business pages you are part of – Your comments, especially if thoughtful and of value to the conversation will get you noticed by the administrator of that page, as well as regular visitors to that page.

Coreen, glad you found this information useful.
I actually paid for this information when I started using facebook, wish I had seen this then. This is the kind of useful information I would like to see in my mailbox when I check my mail in the mornings..not some ridiculous chain instructing me to sent to 20 people so that my fortune will increase by the end of the day..
Ps I especially liked the quote about “one hand wash another” I firmly believe in Reciprocal Networking..works everytime.
Thank much
