One of the best ways to increase your visibility on the internet is have your business Facebook Page by creating an Official Page for your business. The most important thing about the Facebook Page is that they are public and are indexed by Google. With Facebook being one of the most searched for terms daily the search engine optimization (SEO) for your business will increase tremendously.
As a business owner, it’s smart to set up a Page. There are a lot of people who use Facebook personal profiles for just that–personal. They might be using it for staying in touch with friends and family. Not everyone ‘friends’ people they don’t know on Facebook. With Pages, people who “like” your Page (formerly referred to as “Fans”) are expressly saying they want to find out more about your business, not just you the individual. They have shown their interest by “opting in” as it were.
There are three basic steps to setting up a Page:
- Choose the category and type of your business;
- Name your Page (be sure to include keywords you want to be found for);
- Click “Create Official Page.”
That’s it! Once you’ve done that, upload a photo (yourself or your logo, depending on your business), fill out the Info tab section and About Box, and click “Suggest to Friends” under your picture to start inviting your Facebook personal friends to your Business Page.
Once you have some supporters of your Page, you want to encourage dialogue and interaction between yourself and them and even among each other. Provide content related to your niche or industry in the form of links, blog posts, photos and more, and people will begin to see you as a resource. These will attract comments from your supporters, and this activity goes out into the News Feed. The more activity that is on your Page, the more attention you will attract to your Page.
Action Steps:
1. Join me on my Facebook Page!
2. Explore some of the following applications for your business page.
- Events: Use this application to let people know of any upcoming events you have scheduled, such as a local workshop, a sale, or a teleseminar.
- NetworkedBlogs: This application allows you to import the RSS feed of your blog. Every time you post to your blog, the post will pop up on your Page automatically–as well as show up in the News Feed–allowing them to quickly go viral with one click. Very powerful!

Really good information, the only thing that I always forget is where to start and what to click on to bregin the process of creating a page, I know Facebook has changed the position of links and sometimes I find it frustrating that I have to Google for directions on basic ‘how to’ stuff. Also do I need to have a personal Facebook account in order to create a Business Page?
Ian, now you do not need a personal account in order set up a business page. At the bottom right section of the Facebook log in page you will see ‘create a page..’ Just select that and you will be taken to the next page with instructions that are quite simple to follow. One very important requirement is that you have a valid email address. You will need to go there to confirm your registration and continue the process of creating the page. Also, you will need to have the name for the page as well as have authority to create the page.
Thank you, as always great information and exquisitely easy to follow instructions.

Continue the good work. Right direction.
Sandra, good information for non-technical people like me and for start-up businesses as well. Great idea to have a separate Facebook page for your business.
